The beer has a good cloudy/hazy look, and most of the sentiment seemed to settle to the bottom. There is a strong carbonation, and a very easy drinkability. Lost Coast’s Tangerine took a different approach and basically filled it with as much citrus flavor as possible. There is a massive wave of citrus when you sip into this beer, compared to Rogue’s Somer Orange, which had a good hint of orange but nothing that hit you over the head. What stands out in this beer is, you guessed it, the strong Tangerine flavor.
Their Tangerine Wheat, however, definitely stood out, so much that when I saw the bottle on the shelf at Village Beer Merchant I wanted to try it again.
I know I’ve tried their Great White White Ale but I honestly couldn’t tell you anything about them besides I really liked their art style on the bottle. I haven’t had a lot of experience with California’s Lost Coast Brewery. The waitress tried to pretend it wasn’t a “chick beer” and that was nice of her, but I can safely say: It’s definitely a chick beer. I really like a good fruit beer in the summer time (and really any time) and Tangerine is probably one of the few fruits that I’ve never tried in beer form. I have to admit, when I first ordered this as a special draft at Coles a couple weeks ago I was kind of embarrassed.
